Yes, we do!
I have worked with items such as butterflies, insects, snake skin, horseshoes, photos, shells and feathers previously. Contact us to enquire.
PLEASE NOTE: I do not create any resin pieces containing ashes, cremations or breast milk due to the size of my studio and hygiene requirements.
Flowers must be 100% dried, otherwise they will rot inside of the resin over time!
Not necessarily. Custom orders can be created with your own flowers, or any I can source at the time (depending on the season!).
Contact us if you would like something specific.
Not all flowers are able to be preserved, some delicate flowers such as lilies and tulips don't tolerate this very well.
Natives such as proteas and leucadendrons dry extremely well and retain colour.
Some flowers preserve their colour extremely well, others will change appearance during the drying stage. For example - white roses often dry with a cream/orange hue giving the piece a more antique feel.
I have dried many different types of flowers, feel free to send me a message if you have questions about a particular type.
Flowers can easily become bruised, though it may not always be apparent when fresh, these bruise marks become more visible when the flower is dried.
For this reason, I usually recommend to dry the entire bouquet, then we can pick out the best flowers to use for your piece.
Alternatively some clients are happy to use flowers from their bridesmaids bouquets too.
I strongly recommend to put your flowers into fresh water as soon after the event as you can, and to keep them out of direct sunlight if possible. Keeping them in a cool room or fridge is also helpful.
Ideally we want to start the preservation process between 24-48 hours after the event to ensure the flowers are dried while they are still in their prime, before they start to naturally decompose.
If this isn't possible and you would like to start drying them yourself, hang the bouquet upside down in a warm, dark room to dry. This usually takes a number of weeks for them to fully dry.
Preserving your fresh flowers as soon as possible is key.
To preserve flowers I use florist grade silica sand to dry the flowers. This allows them to retain their shape and much more colour than traditional drying methods (i.e. pressing flowers).
It also gives us some flexibility to position flowers at different angles depending on how you want them dried, and allows me to dry more fragile flowers that usually perish during air drying.
Drying flowers can take between 1-3 weeks, depending on the types of flowers and their moisture content.
Once all of the flowers are completely dried, the resin casting process begins.
With larger pieces I will arrange the dried flowers first before casting into resin, and send you a picture for approval before we start incase you want to make any changes.
Depending on the mould you have selected, the casting process can take 4-12 weeks as there are many elements involved - including pouring resin in layers, sanding and polishing.
From start to finish, your piece takes approximately 6-14 weeks to be created.
Once your flowers are dried I can provide a more accurate time frame.
All pieces that require flowers to be dried/preserved may incur a fee for this service, dependent on the time required.
The charge for floral preservation is $30/hour, which is in addition to the price of casting for the mould you decide to select (see Moulds + Pricing link below).
All large pieces require a $50 deposit payable on the day of flower drop off.
For a cost estimate, please contact us directly.
